Its day 3 on site with The Original Stone Paving Co and although there is no sign of any Granite Paving yet, Cookie and the boys are making good progress. Yesterday they started to install the retaining walls. The retaining walls on this project are being constructed from timber sleepers and solid concrete blocks. One of the good things about timber sleeper retaining walls is that they can be installed very quickly and as long as they are installed properly they will stand the test of time. Also, being made of wood they blend into the landscape very quickly, unlike block walls which can take time to look their best. Its always nice to see natural materials used and in this case the contrast between the timber sleepers and the natural stone paving will result in a bold looking landscape. Its also nice to see the compacted base being installed in many areas. Natural Stone Paving is only as good as what's underneath it, so no matter how good the paving looks on the surface, if the base beneath it is not right, the patio will fail. We'll go into more detail about construction methods once Cookie starts lo lay the natural stone paving but if you cant wait that long then check out this video of The Original Stone Paving Co in action. On the video Cookies guys were laying reclaimed granite setts which can come in any manner of different shapes and sizes. Although laying Sawn Paving is in some ways easier it can also be time consuming because with any type of sawn paving the finish must always be perfect.
Thats all for today. If anyone has any questions dont hesitate to get in touch
