Adaptable, manageable and easily maintained, this plant is the perfect choice regardless of garden conditions. Visually stunning, this popular choice will make the ideal centrepiece in a garden, creating an eye-catching focal point with a classic feel. Easy to grow Beech is also a reliable choice of plant for hedging due to its fairly fast-growing nature, generally growing anywhere between 30-60cm a year. If left to its own devices this can grow up to 50 metres.

Soil Requirements

Prefers a well drained but moist soil.

It is able to grow in a variety of soil types though (chalk, clay, loam, sand).

pH requirements: acid, alkaline to neutral.

Watering RequirementsEnsure soil is kept moist during warmer months and reduce irrigation all together in winter.

When used as a hedge or specimen tree the European Beech is relatively low maintenance.

By timing your hedging maintenance or selective pruning meticulously, you should only have to prune once or twice a year. It can vary depending on the climate and growth rates but this is a good rule of thumb.
