Stone pavers are a versatile paving option suitable for patios, paths and even driveways. They can also be used to edge patios and paths as well as being very effective to create distinct feature areas within larger areas of paving.
A slim profile and precisely sawn edges give our Stone pavers a modern feel that blends easily into contemporary garden settings, but the small format sizes can also be used effectively to add texture and pattern to traditional garden areas. Incorporating a herringbone pattern also complements traditional settings beautifully.
Our range has been carefully chosen to include some of our most popular sawn sandstone and limestone products. Egyptian Beige and Antique Yellow limestone and Beige and Harvest sandstone, for example, are warm, light-enhancing colours that add elegance to a garden design.
To enhance our clients' options with a versatile colour palette, we've also included darker materials in our selection. This includes options such as Tumbled Black Sandstone and Antique Grey Limestone for those seeking a deeper, richer colour tone.
To further enhance the choice, we have included 4 colours of tumbled riven sandstone patio bricks in the range; Raj Green, Black, Kandla Grey, and Mint. Also with sawn sides, these options feature a lightly riven surface and are a good option in higher traffic areas where staining might be an issue. This extra versatility gives you the option to update the traditional feel of riven sandstone with a crisp linearity that's ideal for adding a modern touch.
Adding matching stone pavers into your design will inject dynamism and movement, thanks to their small, geometric shape, while allowing you to create subtle contrast in texture for additional interest.
Stone pavers are a subtle way to maintain overall colour in a garden design, while injecting pattern and texture. They may be laid in a number of different ways, including basketweave, stack bond, running bond and herringbone, all of which impart their own particular character (see our clay pavers for more about paver patterns). Or patterns may be combined to enhance a large area such as a driveway. As with all our paving, we recommend riven stone and darker colours for driveways, because of the increased traffic and greater likelihood of staining.
Since launching our Stone Pavers range, we've received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Our landscape customers are particularly enthusiastic about the versatility of this new material, impressed by our competitive pricing, and appreciative of the extensive range of colours and materials available.
Our Stone Pavers collection has been meticulously sourced to offer a more affordable alternative to our popular Clay Pavers. While Clay Pavers are highly sought after for their aesthetic appeal and superior technical properties, their price point is not always accessible to all. The new Stone Pavers range provides an opportunity for clients to achieve a look like Clay but at a more competitive price and with a slightly more contemporary aesthetic.
For a similar look with a different character, look at our natural stone setts and clay pavers. Setts — available in sandstone, limestone and granite — are twice the width of stone pavers, with hand-cut edges and a dimensional tolerance of approximately 10mm. This results in a chunkier feel and a more rustic effect. Setts are often used for driveways and as an edging to patios and paths.
Clay pavers have similar dimensions to our stone pavers, especially our Alpha and Kessel Garden ranges, and are available in a huge range of colour options. Clay bricks often contain a range of colours within each product and are loved for their warmth and texture. Clay pavers may be laid with mortar but are more often dry laid with sanded joints, which gives a different feel.
Stone pavers are best laid on a mortar bed, with mortar joints, as when installing natural stone paving. We recommend that you joint our stone pavers with Flowpoint mortar and 5mm width joints. It is possible to reduce the width to as little as 3mm if an appropriate jointing mortar is used.
Stone Pavers can be laid on a flexible sand screed to create, in effect, a natural stone block paver. This is especially useful if using stone pavers in a driveway application. In this case, we would recommend brushing in a dry, fine pointing sand between the pavers, to add flexural strength and to help protect the pavers from chipping. Refer to our clay paver installation guide for more info.
