Indian Sandstone

Indian sandstone is quarried mainly in Rajasthan, a region of northern India long renowned for the quality of its sandstone. Formed over millions of years, it carries genuine tonal variation and, in many slabs, visible fossils and fine veining, so no two pieces are alike. That is what gives an Indian sandstone patio its depth and character.

Kandla Grey is one of the most popular choices, a cool blue-grey with occasional buff flecks that suits contemporary schemes. Raj Green sits at the warmer end, a soft green mixed with buffs and browns, close in feel to traditional Yorkstone. Alongside these you will find Mint, Autumn Brown and Camel Dust, plus tumbled versions that are gently aged for a softer, more weathered look.

Riven sandstone is split by hand along the stone's natural layers, so the surface has a subtle texture and good grip underfoot, which helps through wet British winters. For a sleeker, more modern face, our sawn paving is machine-cut to a flatter, calibrated finish. Every slab we supply is calibrated to a consistent thickness, so laying is more predictable and the results look neater.

On care, riven sandstone is hard-wearing and rarely needs sealing, though some people seal it to make cleaning simpler. Sawn stone has more open pores once cut, so we recommend sealing it, and our pre-sealing service handles that before delivery. After that, a regular sweep and an occasional wash keeps it looking its best.
