Garden edging stones are unsung heroes in our opinion. Generally an unobtrusive part of a garden design, they subtly convey definition, add structure and perform a very useful role.

Where to use garden edging

The most obvious use is as flower bed edging. Creating a solid, low, partly buried barrier between bare soil and lawn helps prevent grass from spreading. Separating beds from paths means paving remains cleaner and spreading plants are kept in their place more easily. The slightly raised edge—the stones should protrude 10cms above the soil—also acts as a prop for lax plants grown to spill lushly onto the path, giving them more shape. But the use of natural stone garden edging isn’t restricted to creating neat edges to borders and paths. They’re also a solution to shallow terracing without the need for bricks. Or how about creating the outline of grassed steps, which can be a solution to a gentle slope?

Sandstone and granite edging stone colours

The flower bed edging stones measure 600x200x40mm and are designed to be laid on edge, so that, once embedded, they'll rise 100mm above the ground. The top edges of our sawn sandstone border stones have a simple pencil-round finish for neat, minimalist lines. The Indian sandstone flower bed edging has a completely different feel. Their hand-chiselled, rock-faced upper edge complements the riven surface of the matching paving slabs and is useful when you want to add a layer of texture to your design.
