Yorkstone Paving

Yorkstone Paving Information

Yorkstone paving is one of the best loved on the market. Used for centuries in our cities, it has long proved its suitability to the British climate. It's also one of the most versatile pavings. Reclaimed Yorkstone blends beautifully with traditional settings, while sawn York stone adds luxury to contemporary designs. It’s ideal for paving, step treads, risers, coping stones and pier caps. Incorporating its mellow tones into a design adds dignity and a timeless quality to entrances, patios, paths and driveways.

Is Yorkstone a sandstone or limestone?

There’s a variety of stone pavings described as Yorkstone. Long-held custom has brought it to mean a dense, high-quality sandstone quarried in Yorkshire. There’s no legal definition attached to the name, however, and occasionally you’ll find imported stone described as Yorkstone.

What is the best alternative to York stone?

There’s no doubt that Yorkstone paving is special, but it can prove too much for some budgets. Imported stone offers economical alternatives which carry every bit as much elegance as the British material. An alternative to grey Yorkstone would be Heath smooth sandstone, which works well in traditional designs. For an economical alternative to Buff Yorkstone paving, Raj Green Indian sandstone has a subtle mix of colours with more brown tones, as well as a riven surface for a classic look.

We explain the reasons for the cost of natural stone pavings and how to mitigate them.
